Tech business ideas face scrutiny at startup pitch event in Boca Raton

A fishing network, a car driving membership service and an environmental cleanup product are among the products and services looking for support at the next Tech Startup Pitch Event in Boca Raton.

A tech startup pitch event and networking event is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 27 at Cendyn Spaces, 980 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton. Admission is $15.

Local tech startups will be given up to three minutes each to pitch their concepts to a panel of successful entrepreneurs and investors. Panelists will be able to ask questions after each pitch.

Startup companies signed up to make pitches include:

• FishWithMe.Net, a web-based network that helps anglers find fishing buddies to share costs, learn and share tips and techniques, and fish. The South Florida company was founded by Tracy McCaskill, an associate professor of business at Rock Valley College of Rockford, Ill. Year-round membership is $36, according to the website.

• Revolve, a new service seeking to redefine the new and used car automotive market by allowing consumers to drive multiple cars through a membership program. The startup was co-founded by Asoka Verravagu, founder of Afterburner Automotive in Boca Raton.

• Slurpits Living Biofilters, which uses living biofilters to absorb and digest oil and pesticides in the water, founded by Terry Bastian of Dania Beach, who also founded Waterflowers Ecological Design.
